Match Review Malaysia Cup Semi-Final (2) | Kuching City FC 1-0 Selangor FC | Aggregate: 2-1 | Journey Ends

Selangor FC failed to reach the Malaysia Cup final after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Kuching City FC in the second leg of the semi-final at Sarawak State Stadium. This result sees Kuching City advance to the final with a 2–1 aggregate, following a 1–1 draw in the first leg.

The team played with great determination despite missing Chrigor Moraes and Kim Pan-gon due to yellow card suspensions. Kuching City capitalised on the opportunity when Petrus Shitembi scored the solitary goal in the 31st minute, which proved decisive in a tightly contested match. Selangor’s challenge became even more difficult in the second half when Safuwan Baharudin and Mukhairi Ajmal were given red cards within a short period, forcing the team to continue with nine players. Despite making several substitutions to try and change the game, Selangor FC were unable to find an equaliser as Kuching City maintained a solid defence until the final whistle.

Lee Soon-seok apologised to the supporters for the disappointing result but praised the players’ commitment and resilient character.

“This result is very disappointing, and on behalf of the head coach, I would like to apologise to all the supporters who attended and to everyone who continues to support the team’s journey. Nevertheless, I am proud of the players’ effort and commitment, who have shown strong character and never gave up until the final whistle,” he said.

This week, Selangor FC travel to Kelantan for their 23rd match of the 2025/26 Super League, where they will face Kelantan Red Warriors FC at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu on 24 April at 9 pm.

The management of Selangor FC would like to express its sincere thanks to the supporters who flew to Sarawak to back the team yesterday.
